SURAT: More than 50,000 people from Surat had sent their feedbacks by Thursday, the last day for citizens to send their critical assessment on cleanliness in their respective cities to the central government. The results of Swachh Survekshan-2019 and cleanliness ranking of the cities will be declared by the central government in the first week of March, sources said.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHU), Government of India sends alerts on citizen feedbacks from different cities, which are in cleanliness index fray.
The alert also says number of citizens participation has no direct link to their cities’ scores. Surat with 55,471 feedbacks was placed ninth among 12 cities on January 30. These 12 cities had recorded more than 50,000 feedbacks till now. There are nine cities in the second group. These cities have recorded more than 25,000 feedbacks. Ahmedabad figures in the second category and is placed seventh with 30,094 feedbacks. Lucknow with 2,82,589 and Indore with 2,22,787 feedbacks are placed first and second, respectively.
Municipal commissioner M Thennarasan said, “Direct feedback collected by survekshan teams during their visit to the cities carries maximum weightage. A city requires minimum of 1,000 citizen feedback. Surat most likely will have 65,000 feedbacks before the deadline. We have tried our best to improve cleanliness in the city and had done all that is required. We hope to fare much better than last year.” In 2018, Surat was second in terms of citizen feedback. Surat had slipped to 14th place in Swachh Survekshan-2018 from 6th in 2017 and fourth in 2016. Surat Municipal Corporation authorities hope to be in the top three slots this year.
